As the boundaries of surf exploration expand to the furthest reaches, so too does the soundtrack that accompanies the journey. 
CJ Mirra’s ‘STATIC - Original Surf Soundtracks Vol.1’ released this Spring serves to stir up the wanderlust for those new frontiers. 

Ethereal soundscapes, lo-fi guitar excursions and rising orchestral, neo-classical moments summon images of the wild, awe-inspiring surf destinations – Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, The Faroes and beyond. Aficianados of cold water cinematic adventures will already be familiar with CJ’s work. The album is a selection of 8 tracks, each originally composed for one of a number of award winning surf films scored by CJ Mirra over the past four years. “The light, the landscape, the size of the waves and colour of the water all had an influence on the sound,” says CJ on harnessing the essence of these cold water locales.

San Antonio, TX-based percussionist and improviser Dane Rousay creates  a succinct, radically experimental two-track EP titled 'IMP / ENV'. Side A, “IMP”, is a free improvised drum and percussion-object piece - Rousay's familiar territory - but Side B, “ENV”, a field recording and contact microphone piece, is a departure from their previous work. Rousay describes it as “a piece where I monitored my amplified heart rate in different environments while field recording those environments simultaneously.

After debuting on last year’s TROJ compilation EP with “Listen, The Wind Has Something To Say”, 20 year old Czech musician and visual artist S I T R A returns to Colour8 Records (and reinforces his statement of intent) with the entrancing ‘Listen To The Wind‘ EP, a collection of five lush, beguiling and gentle tracks. 

S I T R A’s artistic sensibilities are at the fore here as he constructs vivid and beautiful soundscapes centred around subtle field-recordings and colourful synths. While ambiance and found-sound are the building blocks of the tracks on 'Listen To The Wind', the Czech musician branches out and finds engaging melodic extensions of these simple sonic stems adding a depth and substance that reward repeated listening. Prodding beats feature on a couple tracks, while singer FRAU features on “Second Floor Apartment”, her ethereal vocals adding a human voice to a world of hypnotic natural sounds. 

We’re stoked to welcome LA-based Irish native Mike Slott to the Colour8 family. His Mirror I Mirror release, an ambient EP he self-released last year is now available on all streaming platforms and also on a limited edition of cassette tapes via Colour8.  For the uninitiated, we've been fans of Mike since he was one half of Heralds Of Change and, imho, his 2009 album, Lucky9teen still shines beyond bright and is an essential listen for all. Mirror I Mirror is a short EP featuring IV meditative, crystalline compositions. Within, find beautiful bright textures, digital flutters, scenic soundscapes and cathartic drones. This is music for meditation, reflection and introspection and we'd encourage private headphone listening.
 

A collection of raw and honest musical meditations, often abstract but always beautiful, they reflect on concrete moments - walks on the beach, reading in silence, shopping in a supermarket.

Raw field recordings, rich textural tapestries and glorious Haifan pads combine as simple sonic postcards. A common thread which unites them is their desire to express what home feels like.

Colour8 presents the third Mumurations release, TROJ EP, this time in support of the Central European electronic music scene. It features 3 tracks by young talented producers from Slovakia & Czech Republic. 

Spanning the spectrum of modern electronic music, from Theydon Boys' emotional outburst uniting the acoustic and the synthetic, through S I T R A's Shigeto-inspired chime-filled instrumental hip-hop, to Mt. Accord's expansive ambient landscapes, this EP showcases the alluring talent hidden in the depths of Central Europe. While at its core experimental and unconventional, this EP is also deeply rooted in the current music scene, drawing inspiration from a spectrum of artists - Shigeto, Mark Pritchard or Nils Frahm to name just a few. All 3 producers begin their journey here and more material is imminent. 

Colour8 member Adam Donoval explains: "I come from Slovakia, so it's only natural that I try to look for compatriots with a similar vision and an interesting sound. Me and the rest of the Colour8 crew had been listening to these three guys specifically, just on their SoundCloud, and worked with them to put this together. It's a debut official release for all three of them and we are delighted that they are starting on their respective paths with us."
